About Merge PDF

Merging is the most-requested PDF operation, and for good reason: documents arrive in pieces. A signed contract comes back as three separate scans, an expense claim needs a dozen receipts in one attachment, a report has its appendix in a different file from its body.

This tool loads every PDF you add, copies all their pages into a single new document in the order you set, and writes out one file. Page content, embedded fonts, images and vector graphics are copied byte-for-byte, so nothing is re-rendered and nothing loses quality.

Order matters, so it is directly editable — drag any document to a new position in the list before merging, and remove anything you added by mistake.

How to merge PDF files

  1. Add your PDFs

Drag and drop up to 20 files, or tap Select Files. Add them in several goes if it is easier.

  2. Put them in order

Drag files up and down the list until the sequence is right. The page count of each is shown to help you check.

  3. Merge

Press Merge PDFs. Every page is copied into one new document on your device.

  4. Download

Save the combined file. Your original PDFs are untouched.

What is preserved

  • All page content — text, images and vector graphics — copied without re-encoding.
  • Embedded fonts, so the merged document renders identically.
  • Original page sizes and orientations; pages of different sizes can coexist in one PDF.
  • Internal links that point within the same source document.

What is not carried over

Document-level features that cannot be meaningfully combined are dropped: form field values, digital signatures (which by design become invalid the moment a document is altered), and per-document bookmarks and outlines.

If you need signatures or interactive forms to survive, merge the documents before they are signed or filled in.

Frequently asked questions

Are my documents uploaded anywhere?

No. Merging happens entirely in your browser using a JavaScript PDF library. The files are read from disk into memory, combined, and written back out as a download. Nothing is transmitted, which matters for contracts, medical records and anything else confidential.

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

Up to 20 files per batch, with no daily limit. The cap keeps memory use safe on phones and tablets, since every document has to be held in memory at once. For more, merge in groups and then merge the results.

Can I change the page order, not just the file order?

This tool orders whole documents. To rearrange individual pages, first use Split PDF to extract the pages you want as separate files, then merge them in the order you need.

Will merging reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as-is rather than re-rendered, so text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their original resolution, and vector graphics stay sharp at any zoom.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked before their pages can be copied. Open the file in a PDF reader, enter the password, save an unprotected copy and merge that.

Why is the merged file larger than the sum of its parts?

Occasionally the same font or image is embedded in several source documents and gets copied more than once. Running the result through the PDF Compressor can recover that overhead.
